Live, in-concert introduction to the Miraculous Mandarin

Bartók – Miraculous Mandarin, The shabby old rake
WCFSO – February 2009

Transforming Bach

Leopold Stokowski’s score of the Toccata and Fugue in d minor for organ by Bach, from the Otto E. Albrecht Music Library at the University of Pennsylvania. The conductor’s markings indicate concepts for his famous orchestration of the piece [which the WCFSO will perform this weekend]. More detailed images documenting Stokowski’s process, including several pertaining to his collaboration with clarinetist and arranger Lucien Cailliet, are here.
