‘The Sounds Of Star Wars’ Now At Fans’ Fingertips – mp3
NPR Weekend Edition – December 12, 2010
This is all kinds of amazing, especially George Lucas’ concept for the film’s sound design [paraphrased here by the author of The Sounds Of Star Wars]:
Don’t go to your synthesizers first and generate echoing electronic tones for me, go out into the real world with your tape recorder and record motors and animals and bring back familiar sounds, which we can modify into something otherworldly.
The whole piece is a must listen for its insight into how Star Wars audio architect Ben Burtt ‘collected bits and pieces of sound from everywhere’ in the process of creating some of film history’s most enduring sounds.
