Arash Sobhani, lead singer of the Iranian rock band Kiosk, on the value of recordings.
Sobhani’s point of view is, as he notes, shaped by the fact that ‘there’s no way to generate that money because [the band and its music are] illegal’ in Iran. More privileged musicians elsewhere whose thinking about recordings is dominated by commercial considerations might want to spend some time pondering Sobhani’s take on the matter.
