'A musical profit outweighs a financial loss.'
I doubt Duke Ellington had orchestras in mind when he dropped this knowledge, and yet he managed to essentially define both our business model and the source of our programming conundrum.
If we embrace his concept and make it our top structural priority to explore creative ways of sustaining it our service to our communities and to society at large will be irreplaceable. If not our entire culture will suffer something much more painful and lasting than financial loss.
