I lived in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore for five years [while working at the Baltimore School for the Arts and the National Symphony] and was captivated on a daily basis during that time by the city’s palpable sense of history and the uniqueness of its citizens. Both of those qualities shine through in this gorgeous photomontage by Tumblr’s own boyghost, whose views of...

Anonymous asked: Hello Jason. #askaconductor was great fun - hope you enjoyed it, too. Love your tumblr site, and many of the pics. Do you chase guest conducting arrangements? If so, is it through people you already know, or do you 'submit' materials? I simply don't have the contacts in the US, nor sufficient recent professional experience. Stephen http://stephenpbrown.com

Say it ain't so, LO
The Louisville Orchestra, of which I am resident conductor, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday. Read more about how the situation unfolded over the past few weeks. For a variety of reasons I will refrain from comment at this time. Future performances with the LO will be added to the concerts area of my site.

– Arash Sobhani, lead singer of the Iranian rock band Kiosk, on the value of recordings.
Sobhani’s point of view is, as he notes, shaped by the fact that ‘there’s no way to generate that money because [the band and its music are] illegal’ in Iran. More privileged musicians...
